Dieterich: (217) 925-5331- Call the police!!! A police officer will help determine whose fault it is and they will document a police report. This will help solve any questions your insurance may have regarding the accident. If no one else is involved in the accident you should still call the police and they will inform you what to do next.
- Write down the names, phone numbers and insurance information of all the parties involved. Also include any witnesses and their phone numbers.
- Your car may need to be towed because it is unsafe to drive. If you're not sure if it's safe, ask the police officer. Remember it's better to have it towed if you’re not sure how safe it is. Notify the officer in charge who you would like to tow your car and where you want it towed to. If you have no preference who tows the vehicle the police will call a tow company that is on their rotation list. The designated tow company will tow your vehicle to your desired location; if you have no preference the tow company will tow it to their lot.
- Contact your insurance company and let them know what happened. Many people will call their local agent to report the claim. A 2nd option is to call the claim # on your insurance card. A 3rd option is to report the claim online, many insurance companies have an online form you can fill out.
- Decide who you want to repair your car. If you’re not sure where you want your car repaired start by asking friends and family for suggestions. A reputable repair shop will help guide you through the repair process from this point.
